Find your person

Some people don’t like me and some people do. What a philosophical approach to life. Even more amazing when you realise this sentiment is from a four year old. We have always encouraged Tommy to be positive about his ‘little arm’ – it’s not a disability it just means he has to find different ways of approaching the world at times. He followed this statement by … Continue reading Find your person

Photographing Snowdrops

Light – Camera -Angle I often get people asking for advice when taking photographs so I thought I’d just share a few ideas today. I love Spring flowers and bulbs they are just so beautiful and full of hope. Due to the recent mild weather it appears that UK snowdrops are out in all their glory. On a practical note I always wear old jeans … Continue reading Photographing Snowdrops

Lensbaby Velvet 56

Following on from my ‘Milestone‘ post earlier this week, my husband has been asking me for ages what I wanted for my birthday. I decided that I wanted to be selfish and have something I wanted rather than needed so after lots of research I decided on a new lens and it arrived this morning! The lensbaby Velvet 56  looks and feels sturdy and allows you … Continue reading Lensbaby Velvet 56

Still freezing flowers

If you read my previous blog post you will see that I began to play with frozen flower images. I’m hooked! After experimenting with different containers and flowers, I like the effect produced by smaller pots and freezing single flowers. By using distilled water and having the patience (something I’m not very good at!) to build up the layers of water slowly you get the … Continue reading Still freezing flowers

Outdoor learning just in the garden

Tommy and LJ love our garden, they love Mamma’s greenhouse (Tommy has been calling me that since he began talking and couldn’t say grandma). We are learning so much by playing outdoors just in this small space. I wanted to share some free and inexpensive  ideas for developing your garden and using it for fun learning I’ve left a patch of grass ‘wild’ to encourage butterflies … Continue reading Outdoor learning just in the garden

It’s finally the Summer for most people and even the weather is being obliging! Our #photochallenge today is a little harder. However, you still can’t get this wrong and anyone can join in.Today’s theme is ‘ I want to live in a world where …’ With this statement written over a photo – the only stipulation is that it should be a photograph taken by … Continue reading #photochallenge 19th July

Printing photographs onto fabric

I had a real eureka moment today when I realised how easy it is to print onto fabric! I’ve used transfer paper but never been happy with the results. Today I used inkjet fabric sheets – £8.95 for 10 A4 sheets and the result is amazing! (The only downside is that they did take quite a while to be delivered)  You can type quotes basically … Continue reading Printing photographs onto fabric

Slow down

Wabi-sabi (侘寂?) represents a comprehensive Japanese world view or aesthetic centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection (Wikipedia) I love the idea that there is beauty in imperfection and in things that are transient. I have long been a lover of decaying flowers or nature as the textures and lines are often stunning. My garden at the minute looks, on first glance, to be … Continue reading Slow down

Going through phases

I often find myself going through phases with my photography. Sometimes I never take my macro lens off, other times I convert everything to black and white. I’m always highly critical of my work and feel that nothing is good enough. How many of us live with ‘imposter syndrome’ and fear that we will be ‘found out’ as simply not being good enough.  I’m learning … Continue reading Going through phases
