Thank you for giving us a hand…

Two weeks ago we pressed launch on our Open Bionics ‘Go Fund Me‘ campaign for Tommy and Lottie to get a Hero arm which we called ‘Can you give us a hand?’ We had no way of knowing how long it would take us to get £25,000 but if you’ve read previous blogs you will know why it was so important to us.

We were excited but scared and I remember 2 days in Sarah putting a post in our group that we had gone over the £1,000 mark – we were so excited.

Who would have ever believed (certainly not us) that exactly 2 weeks after we launched we now have over £33,000 in funds!

How did that happen? We have been supported along the way by family and friends. We’ve had some huge donations for which we are incredibly grateful . We have 7 and 8 year olds organising bike rides for us … the amount they raise is a bonus, the support they have shown Tommy and Lottie is beyond price.

Last week we were in the local press in Barnsley and Huddersfield and donations continued to pour in steadily.

ITV news picked up on our story and thanks to Amaze Lab, Creative Hut and the Cutlery works, Tommy and Lottie were filmed for National TV on Wednesday. A huge thank you to the reporter (Hannah Miller) and Cameraman from ITV for their kindness.

The video of the news report is here

When the news item went out we had £21,000 BUT by the time I checked at the end of the programme we had smashed our target! These two will get their arms and we couldn’t be prouder of them and of all our supporters.

That isn’t the end of the story though!

Tommy and Lottie wanted to know about ‘the other children like us’ explaining ‘they need one of these arms too’. They’ve grown up as key members of the LimbBo Foundation and know that there are many other children just like them so we will continue to fund raise. We had events planned to fund raise for their arms, these will go ahead and funds will be transferred to Open Bionics to support other children

LimbBo Adventure Day 2021

Surreal isn’t the word, lack of sleep, nerves at being on TV, panic that we might not raise the money, completely humbled by the support we received and it’s a fortnight none of us will forget.

We have an online store selling our ‘Can you give us a hand ‘ t shirts, hoodies and bags (all profits to our funds) – we just need a ‘celebrity’ to endorse us by wearing one and posting a photo – do you know anyone?

There is a coffee, cake and craft morning planned for November

and rumours that the sky dive and 3 Yorkshire Peaks are still possibilities . Please support us by keeping the momentum going – how awesome would it be to have a whole group of children with Bionic arms ?
